Welcome
This blog is where I document my journey into home-studio recording and music production on Linux.
I’m Richard Walker — a Yorkshireman, aging hobbyist musician, and former member of a York-based band who somehow found his way back to music after a decade-long detour. Years ago I was gigging, songwriting, and living the classic “musician in his twenties” life. Then life got busy, time moved on, and music drifted quietly into the background.
But creativity has a way of tugging you home.
These days I write, record, and produce simply because it makes me happy. Armed with a guitar, the bravery to give singing a go, and a love for acoustic and indie rock/pop, I’ve built a small DIY studio powered entirely by Linux. It’s a setup shaped by curiosity, thrift, and the occasional bout of self-indulgence — no expensive gear required (well… maybe a bit, but I’m always hunting for the best value).
Here you’ll find the tools I use, the lessons I learn, the songs I make, and everything that comes with building a home studio on open-source foundations. Whether you’re just beginning or you’re a seasoned musician curious about Linux audio, this space is for you.
Welcome aboard — let’s make some noise. ...
